Tana Toraja, Sulawesi - Sulawesi is a lesser known island in the archipelago of Indonesia. It was once colonized by the Portuguese and was named Celebes. The culturally distinct Tana Torajans entomb their dead in wooden coffins in caves and along the cliff sides. A wooden figure, called a tau tau, is often placed nearby to represent the dearly departed.
